A Neocities Thought

My dumb thought for the past couple days: what if I started working on my Neocities webpage again?

On one hand I think this is a sign that I need to get back on my medication, that I am in some way mentally unwell*… on the other hand, like what if I did it!

*I am sure there are normal** people who make Neocities websites but I think I have learned that this is also a “what if I ran off and abandoned my life to live off-grid in a cabin with a dog and two goats”-type fantasy but more accessible

**Not really “normal” per se, maybe no one on neocities is truly “normal” but their work on a personal site is perhaps not indicative of some sort of breakdown

What would you put on a neocities site*? I feel like the last time I saw one active was an artist who used it to advertise and manage commissions?

*not that I’m technically endorsing any digital cabin in the woods and goats options per se

Oh, I started to build it up again for the few months I was looking for a job at the beginning of the year, you can see it here. I am ambivalent about putting my actual writing on the web so the idea was that it was mostly curated cool things, I guess. It did not get very far — I got a job and got busy, but also, the web feels very broken so it’s hard.

Probably I should put down my 10 novels project on there at some point.

Oh neat! Yeah, I get that about just putting writing ideas out there. In some ways, part of the reason I just put my novel works out on one of those serial novel sharing websites was to help break me of that shyness. Not sure it, uh, worked. But I am still glad I did it. It looks like that link is broken for me, for some reason until I stripped it down to the simplest form, but its cute, with a great mission statement.

As someone who has a neocities site, but hasn't done much with it: book reviews! I moved off goodreads, and while I have a good reading tracking site, it doesn't do lists the way I want to do lists, and hand rolling my own site seemed like such a good way of dealing with that!

Assuming that it is not a net-negative reaction to being unwell, I think that working on the neocities site sounds like a good idea. But that might be me projecting, because I would like to have been making progress on mine.
