This dragonfly pendant is very light and delicate so I decided to go with something small and light. I used varied shades of grey and black to match.

Included are hematite cylinders and balls, fire polish ovals, and glass seed beads.

How I make my "painted" mood themes

I started coloring in the first pigeons for my Fancy Pigeon mood theme last night, and decided to take screencaps of the process as I went! I figured that it might help demystify the process for anyone who might want to get started, or who's just interested in how I do things.

I've decided to call this style my "painted" style, as opposed to my "pixel" style, which, in contrast, is almost entirely pixel art with a lot of very minor changes.

Cut for example images and a description of my process )

I hope that was entertaining and/or enlightening for you! I don't anticipate doing this for every mood (especially since I already finished Okay without saving any mid-process examples 😂), but I think it was fun to do at least once 👍

Not sure how to word this...

I'm looking for information on castles? In particular the keep, which was a residence for the nobility as well as a last line of defense.

Some questions include:

  • Wikipedia only talks about English, French, Italian, and Spanish castles having keeps. Did castles in northern, central, and eastern Europe not have keeps, or is this just a matter of fewer English-language sources on, for example, German, Danish, and Polish castles?
  • If you know of any good diagrams or floor plans with labels of castle keeps - both the kind of "generic" cross-section illustrations you see in children's educational books (the larger and more visually detailed the better!) and of specific real-world castles. Preferably castles that actually served as fortifications in addition to residences, rather than castle-esque palaces like Neuschwanstein Castle. It's difficult for me to reconstruct spatial information with text, so visual aids are helpful. It's very hard to find good educational pictures with an image search these days, there's too much AI-generated inaccurate bloat in the results.
  • Relatedly, photos or illustrations of the castle's interior.
  • Who (if anyone) resided in the castle, aside from the noble that owned it and their family, and the servants? Also, more information on the duties and types of servants who would have been present in the castle.

I, um, am sorry if this is too broad. ^_^;

For lack of better title... It could be a keychain; it could be a phone charm. Right now, it's hanging off of my phone.

After seeing a Tumblr post that stuck with me, I managed to find some alphabet beads that matched in color enough to recreate the words. Serendipitously, with three lines, the number of letters matched perfectly, otherwise I was considering sewing the words to fabric stretched on an embroidery hoop.

I think I did a modified square stitch, putting this all together. "Modified", because I think I did it backwards... It's holding together, and I can only hope my knots hold, so I don't drop beads like confetti out of nowhere.

(Original post. I only found this community recently and more recently decided to actually share on it.)

I'm sure there are some interesting jokes there.

When surfing (ancient) personal websites, there are few cooler feelings than clicking a link, crossing your fingers...and seeing that it still works!

(Yes, this happened to me this evening. It was a link to a car dealership site the webmaster bought a replacement Toyota Celica from in 2001, but still! Little victories still count!)

...Now I want to paste that sleek, modern site in the Wayback Machine, and take it back to 2001...

Coming in early for this week's Thursday Recs!

Do you have a rec for this week? Just reply to this post with something queer or queer-adjacent (such as, soap made by a queer person that isn't necessarily queer themed) that you'd, well, recommend. Self-recs are welcome, as are recs for fandom-related content!

Or have you tried something that's been recced here? Do you have your own report to share about it? I'd love to hear about it!

In a similar vein to "Does the Dog Die?", I want a physical calibration check website. Like, at minimum, a list of foods and whether they're supposed to taste spicy or not would be great. An "Are Bananas Supposed to be Spicy?" type of web site, that expands to answer questions like, "How long should I be able to stand or walk before it starts to hurt?" or "Is stepping down stairs supposed to hurt?" and stuff like that. Including possible explanations for why you might hurt when doing things is probably a bad idea for legal reasons at the very least, but like. If there's somewhere it's possible to check, "Hey, is it normal to only be able to fully breathe through one nostril at a time?" then it's a lot easier to know that it's not normal and possibly bring it up with a doctor.

IDK, there's probably a lot of reasons it's impractical, but that's what makes it a pipe dream.
