Morning Pages...ish

I think I might start morning pages, but not really. The first issue is the first thing in the morning issue, which is something I doubt anyway. They say first thing in the morning, but does anyone even have any kinds of thoughts first thing in the morning? I am non-functional and braindead for at least a couple hours. I think my idea is more that these are pre-writing pages, writing before the actual writing, I guess.

The second thing I'm doing wrong is that the notebook I got for this is an A6, so the pages are extremely tiny. But you know what? If they're small, I'm more likely to do them.

Yesterday I did morning pages and even though I did spend a not-insignificant amount of time in between worrying on stuff, when I did actually sit down to write the novel in the evening, I was able to get to the actual writing pretty quickly and I got done more than usual in the amount of time I had. When I was a teenager taking creative writing classes I would always scoff at the prewriting warmup exercises because it felt like it took away from writing time but maybe I shouldn't have -- or alternatively my brain is a lot more clogged up these days and I actually need to clear it out before it gets going. Either or.
