Apparently there are new “temporary” limits on Twitter: max 6000 tweets viewed per day for verified (blue checkmark) and only 600 per day for non-verified, going all the way down to 300 if the account is new.

Which is, totally nuts, especially considering it’s a weekend that he’s implementing it. Also that he wants to get rid of blocklists, well, the site is quickly becoming completely unusable. It’s very strange to decide to limit impressions when the site is run on SELLING those impressions… or does he really think squeezing $8/month out of individual users is actually going to work?

It’s incredible, but also as the big draw to Twitter these days has been fanart, incredibly disappointing. Like a significant amount of art is just going to be straight-up lost the longer this goes on for.

It's such a bewildering string of bad decisions that one almost wonders if he's on a secret quest to destroy social media addiction. Alas, Occam's Razor, he's probably just making bewilderingly bad decisions.

As Twitter becomes more and openly a hub for hostile bigotry though, I wish I could just delete my old accounts and deny him any metrics. But yeah :( There is fan stuff and some old RP logs I don't want to sacrifice and can't easily save. Bleugh.

Saudis, huh? That's a new one.

Yeahhh :/ It always made me ugly laugh when people lauded Twitter as a 'town square' because it has been TERRIBLE for finding the information you want in a correct and timely fashion for a LONG TIME. Let alone as a platform for any kind of serious discussion. (Dear 50 tweet threads: for the love of god, just get a blog.)

I am still sad for the friend networks, and the previously robust organisational alerts usage, and the people for whom Twitter was a key part of finding clients etc.

Can't say I can remember ever seeing even like some weird independent social network site that has a post viewing ratelimit. Like I've been nonstop baffled since I heard about this because it's so god damn unusual

I know Tumblr used to have a posting limit (one which I at one point hit daily) but I dunno if it still has one, and I've been on forums with posting limits for new users. But I've never seen anything like this??
