Apparently the odorous man has actually purchased the hellsite, meaning that an actual exodus may happen (?), or at least that conditions there are likely to get worse and it may be beneficial to my and everyone else’s mental health to spend less time there. I mean that’s probably true anyway, I spend too much time doomscrolling and picking pointless fights there anyway. What would become the New Hotness? Tumblr? Pillowfort or Mastodon? I’m not even on the last two… we shall see.

The biggest concern about moving away from that site is that it actually allowed NSFW compared to a lot of social media now. Not sure where to follow those artists, or even how to compile them together. I wish we still had feeds and feed readers sometimes. Imagine, a daily feed of fresh fanwork smut, straifht to your inbox daily. I can dream…

I've enjoyed my time on mastodon and that's the most twitter-like option out of the bunch, but I feel like it's hard to sell people on federated protocols

I don't think people will actually leave unless there's some drastic change in policy like tumblr's nsfw ban. I've been trying to leave twitter for a while now and I'm mostly okay with leaving it behind excepting the few people I DM with regularly there (we really need to move somewhere else, but even discord doesn't work for us. If worse comes to worst there's always emails I guess 😂). I'm also curious where people leaving twitter would even go.

For artists I guess there's still pixiv? I think a pixiv-like site also popped up a few years ago, but I don't remember the name. I kind of gave up on finding smut art post-2018 🙁

This is an extremely late reply but ‘extremely big’ changes do seem to be happening, even if they’re not immediately evident to the peon, and those changes are about how easy it is to impersonate big brand accounts and personalities now that blue checks are pay-to-play and cheap. Someone noted that this will cause, and has probably already caused, a huge loss of trust from advertisers, especially ones that have to maintain a clean image like Nintendo.

And now the FTC is giving warnings too…

I mean there are absolutely communities for whom this is the burning of the library of Alexandria and mastodon is essentially unusable for me right now with my instance’s constant downtime but like. It certainly is spectacular. People are pulling out all the deck chairs on this Titanic.

Oh wow!I thought he was just going for bankruptcy (which let's face it, would probably do nothing to him), but fucking with the FTC is something else.

I've seen a lot of people lamenting twitter as the "global town square", but at the same time it's a little wild to me that people see twitter as the center of the universe and are saying things like "how will I keep up with X's news?" when the X in question has, y'know, their own website. I guess twitter was the one RSS feed to rule them all. There's definitely a lot of threads that should be saved from there though, and I hope people have been backing up the writing or download their data.

From what I've been seeing most people are allergic to even the explanation of mastadon. And others who have made that move are having trouble as well. I think even tumblr went down for a sec due to new users. As for those going down with the ship, some people are hoping for a tumblr situation where the site gets sold to another party for a much lower price, but I don't know about that. This dude is doubling down on stupidity.

I mean I guess it kind of feels like the center of the universe in some ways, but the big problem is that all the other major platforms are so heavily video-based that it really does exclude a lot of people to a ridiculous extent. Twitter really feels like the last of the great text-based social medias and now it's all fucking video against a lot of people's wills.

Though, yeah, I am thinking I'm going to have to figure out RSS feeds again once Twitter goes kaput. I used to know how to do it, but it's definitely a skill I've forgotten.

I was hoping for a Tumblr-like situation as well, but it really looks like it's going to be seized by the fed by next week at this rate.

I requested an archive last week and finally downloaded it today. 46,000 posts over 12 years. Jesus Christ that's kind of pathetic actually.

Very true. I wouldn't be on social media at all if I had to make videos.

I remember checking my RSS feeds on my PSP so I also used to be intimate, but I have no recollection now lol. Kalloway recently posted this "Some Twitter Armageddon Stuff" and I used the Dreamwidth RSS feed page to make some feeds for the substacks I follow.

I requested my data back in February and then I started manually deleting my old tweets (I didn't want to pay $15, sorry tweetdelete guy). I don't remember how many tweets I had, but I think it was around 25k-27k in 8 years so I do not think 46k in 12 is bad at all.
